The desire to be free and independent inspired Bas Kosters to create his new womenswear collection, presented Wednesday June 10th 2009 in Paradiso in Amsterdam. It brings you to a world of glitter, movement, ecstasy, pleasure and light. The Freedom collection consists of two parts. The first part tells a story about the freedom, fantasies and joy that people experience during their childhood. The second part illustrates the grown up view on a world where we try to forget about the wars…

“Living Too Hard” is inspired by the fast and destructive life of Rock & Roll artists. The Tragic side of this “living on the edge” lifestyle and the way media reports on this lead to the designer’s investigation about Rock & Roll and grunge music style. Bas’s strong desire to design a more approachable Prêt-a-Porter line influenced the choice of cool and wearable pieces that are all finished with a raw edge. He chose natural materials such as cotton and wool, which he then treated with…

The SS12 UGLY collections is inspired on clashing outfits, artificial ugliness, weird esthetics and the beauty boundaries of the human body. We realized that ugliness is found in many more things then just fiscal appearance. The meaning of the word ugly is so personal that it is impossible to define something as beautiful or ugly. Nevertheless we manage to create a print of swearing words and another print of probably the most ugly part of the human body; the penis.

The 1,2, Tree collection is inspired by the balance between the hectic city life and the peaceful- and quietness of nature.A digital, flashy, graphic, punk-like aesthetic with bright colours and a print overdose is the characteristic of this collection. A cuddly monster that can’t talk and communicates with his body. He comes from the woods and trees are his best friends. He eats letters and numbers and takes away our ability to speak.

The Par-Tea collection is inspired by the nightlife and the friendly side of him. Evolved from his award winning collection 'Living Too Hard', the collection has an unmistakable Bas Kosters signature combining the rock 'n' roll edge with chic elements. This is seeing by the rough finishings, hand-made details and the unique dying techniques done by Bas Kosters himself. Photography by Marc Deurloo
