1944 - 1945. Two citizens of Amsterdam transporting firewood during the hunger winter. During the Winter of 1944-1945, Dutch rail workers went on strike to stop the Germans, who then punished them by putting a hold on all maritime transport. This cut off all food and fuel delivery. More than 20,000 people lost their lives in Amsterdam and the western part of the Netherlands during the winter of 1944-1945. #amsterdam #worldwar2
