S.H.De Roos typographic artist ( 1877-1962) in its young years inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, where art and craft completed each other. A beautiful example of it is the expenditure of art and society (1903) of William Morris, looked after by him. As a partisan of Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis he tried also of realising the ideal of ' art to the people '.

S.H. de Roos (1877–1962), known as “the first professional typographic designer in the Netherlands,” apprenticed as a lithographer before studying at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. From 1907 until 1941 he was employed at the Lettergieterij “Amsterdam.”
