Let's take a short break from selecting the images from Madeira. Autumn is here. The best autumn colors won't show until the second half of October, but with temperatures already dropping at night, sunrises are particularly beautiful this time of the year.  I've chosen a location just south of Groningen. It's a place I know well but for some reason I've never given it a serious go. Conditions this morning are epic. It's another example just how important the weather is...

Urk has a bit of a 'special' status in the Netherlands. Up until 1939 it was an island and due to land being reclaimed from the sea, it's now part of the Noordoostpolder. This shoot was a bit of a risk because I hadn't visited this spot before. Google earth is always a big help, but nothing beats physically scouting a location, walking around and seeing it with your own eyes. So I planed the shoot early to give me some extra time to find another location if this location faile...
