Kitchens call for a more complex lighting plan because so much happens in the room. Plan overhead lights for heavy-duty tasks such as wiping down cupboards and sweeping the floor. Add task lighting, such as pendant lights over the island, bar, or sink, for detail-oriented chores. Accent lights show off collectibles or design features.
How To: Make accent lighting for your book shelves and cabinets using LED flexstrips!

I'll be glad I pinned this some day! Change out your builder grade brass shower trim using Rustoleum's Oil Rubbed spray paint ... what would cost you $800 to replace, will only cost you $5 to paint. Holds up well with the water because it is indoor/outdoor paint..... (Pinner says: I also did this with my light fixtures when we moved into our house)
DIY: We have outdated hardware all throughout our home since our house was built in the mid 90's. We are on a budget, so a handy friend of mine told me to spray paint everything. The guy at Home Depot recommended this spray paint, and to use steel wool on the metal to help with saturation. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up with wear and tear, but for now I'm impressed!
