I’m trying to pinpoint why I find these songs so appealing. Singer and songwriter Brian Sella personifies for me a certain age and type, something like the gregarious college kid, perhaps. I like the conversational structure of his lyrics, with the lack of end rhyme and the way the words aren’t nailed to the rhythm. And Sella’s untrained and not afraid to use it voice seems just right to convey that hazy frontier between juvenile cluelessness and wisdom.
