Used about 12 2" pvc pipes. Tried 1 1/2 inch, but bowed way too much. Upright 2" pvc pipe slides over 3 ft long 1 1/2 " pvc pipe imbedded in cement in each 3 gal bucket. Made mistake of not filling buckets completely full of cement,so we had to drill holes in bucket sides for water to drain out.
Made clips out of the leftover pvc pieces, just cut about 1 1/4 of the pipe off, rounded over all the edges. Clips didn't slide over fabric as planned, so had to practically line the clip with the fabric first to clip it onto the pipe. But the entire canopy is designed to be taken all down for the winter.
Made this canopy to cover the bar/seating area this weekend (July 2014). Nice shade! It will do until we can build a nice wooden structure over the entire patio.....lol, in about 20 years or so. The bar top we made in 2013 worked great, needs a little sanding and more sealer, but we love it!
Painted block piers w Rustoleum Concrete & Deck "paint." Dont confuse w Restore stain. Had to glob into paint tray w thick stir stick, its like sandy, liquid stucco. Brush/dabbed on 1st coat for coverage, used texturized rubber roller for texture on 2nd coat. Thick enough to cover seams in block, dries as hard as the concrete.
3 coats of Rustoleum Restore Stain, sanded it down enoght to let grain show and give it character, w coats of helmnsman outdoor poly (marine grade). Mixed poly about 50/50 Mineral spirits, wiped on w/ old tshirt. Wet sanded w/ 320 grit between coats. Might do one more coat of poly.... maybe.
