African Masks
Here are some African mask projects my students have created through the years. We usually read the book Who's In Rabbit's House and look at a variety of wooden masks from Africa. My students love looking at them and drawing from them. Our museum also offers a lending program where teachers can borrow objects, such as masks…

a faithful attempt
Here's another Easter project involving glue. This time, my Grade 6 students used regular white glue to 'draw' an Easter scene- they had to include at least two eggs and show overlapping- to give a sense of space. Remind students to draw large, simple shapes; otherwise the glue will just bleed together into a blob. I encouraged students to add any extra elements such as baskets, chicks, bunnies, sun, etc. Here's the wet glue.... Let them dry flat overnight- we used the floor due to lack of…
Mudcloth, Part II
The golfball-painted backgrounds for the mudcloth are all dry. It was time to work out the foreground. This is a project for the 3- and 4-year olds and the primary goal is actually storytelling. The children record journal entries each week, but some art projects lend themselves perfectly for a little extra storytelling inspired by the books we are reading in class. Mudcloth tells a story with pattern, line, and placement. While there is room for learning about art techniques (collage, in…
