1859 Peterson's. knitted "Infant Petticoat." I include this here only because the border is a wider variation of the lace stitch in both the 1864 red-and-white petticoat and the extant red-and-buff petticoat in the Missouri History Museum. It is also interesting that they give you the choice of knitting the body plain or in a 4x4 knit-purl checkerboard. [jrb]
