For many programs, Open House is about recruiting and getting enrollment revved up for the next year. Since we are located on the same site as a K-8 school, we coincide our Open House with theirs and ours. I happily decided to go into school this past Monday to start working in my classroom only to find out that summer school was held in my room and the custodians were not finished cleaning. A bug theme completes are week of studying the letter B. We made some paper plate bugs. I got this kit to make all three bugs at the Dollar Tree. It was the perfect craft for our bug theme. Grouchy Ladybugs
Today we read Eric Carle's The Grouchy Ladybug. I taught the kids all about these tiny beetles and then we got to work on making some. I got my idea from here, but I changed it a bit. We started with these materials: Rolled up strips of black paper, wiggle eyes on glue dots, wings, black dots (that I made with a hole punch), and heads that were oval and had a small accordion-folded strip on them.
