And it withstood another in 1528 by James V seeking revenge on its owner, his hated stepfather, Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus.

Inverary Castle, Scotland, was the seat of Chief of Clan Campbell, Duke of Argyll. The original castle was built in the 1400's but the current structure was built in the 1700's. The interior of the castle is quite elaborate & includes a State Dining Room with the only surviving work of French painters Girard & Guinard... & the Armoury Hall displays weapons dating from 1740. It is believed to be haunted by the "ghost of a harpist who was hanged in 1644 for peeping at the lady of the house."
