Invictus by William Ernest Henley. "I am the master of my own fate, I am the captain of my soul"

Beautiful poem by William Ernest Henley, 1888 (Book of Verses). 'Invictus' means 'unconquered' in Latin. Said to have inspired Nelson Mandela during his years of imprisonment at Robben Island.

circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. - William Ernest Henley
