On Getting (and Using) Another Chance

What kills love? Only this: Neglect. Not to see you when you stand before me. Not to think of you in the little things. Not to make the road wide for you, the table spread for you. To choose you out of habit not desire, to pass the flower seller without a thought... ~ Jeanette Winterson #lovequotes #love #ilovemylsi

Sitting round in candlelight or firelight, people start to talk about how they are feeling – their inner lives. They speak subjectively, they argue less, there are longer pauses. To sit alone without any electric light is curiously creative. I have my best ideas at dawn or at nightfall, but not if I switch on the lights – then I start thinking about projects, deadlines…

love [the truth is that love / smashes into your life like an ice floe, / and even if your heart is / built like the Titanic you go down. / That's the size of it, the immensity of it. It's not / proper, it's not clean, it's not / containable. - Jeanette Winterson, The Powerbook]
