The Second Sex is a 1949 book by the French existentialist Simone de Beauvoir. One of her best-known books, it deals with the treatment of women throughout history & is often regarded as a major work of feminist philosophy as well as the starting point of 2nd-wave feminism. Beauvoir researched & wrote the book in about 14 months when she was 38 years old. She published it in 2 volumes & some chapters first appeared in the journal Les Temps modernes.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was very relatable towards the end in regards to leaving and overwhelming nostalgia. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone younger than me due to language and sexual references (teenage boy type discussions). There is a lot to be learned and a lot to laugh about in this book.
