The "Calm Down Jar" or "Mind Jar" is a fun meditation tool to use with your child when he/she is feeling upset. Shake the jar up, watch the glitter float to the bottom, and feel a sense of peace almost immediately. My girls each have their very own (I might have one, too!), and they keep them on the kitchen table near their chairs. It is fantast...
The Mind Jar is a meditation tool to use when you are stressed. When you shake the jar the glitter (your thoughts) are all over the place. Watch them slowly settle while you calm down. From blog, "Here We Are Together".
Time out/calm down bottles- original source. If child is too excited or angry or agitated, give them their bottle. They shake it up really well & sit somewhere quiet. Once the glitter is all settled (~5 mins) their time is up. If they try to mess with the bottle, it will only make their time out longer.
Previous Pinner: "Flash was helping me with breakfast this morning and became uber obsessed with this jar. So I put him in it to get him to settle down. And he loved it. He just sat in there blowing me kisses while I laughed my head off. "
This is a calming jar. Instead of timers for time out. Use this. Shake it up, and place it in front of your LO. Explain to them that when it's all shook up, that's how their mind is when they are angry/frustrated/over-whelmed. That sitting there watching all the glitter fall to the bottom will help them calm down, and when they calmed down they can see clearly again.
