Frugal DIY - Get the Crackle finish with Elmer's Glue

Don't waste $ on expensive 'crackle finish' paints, good ol' white school glue works! Instructions: 1.Paint wood surface with base coat paint and allow to dry thoroughly. 2.Brush White Glue on top of base coat. (A thicker coat results in larger cracks - apply a thinner coat for fine cracks.) 3.While glue is tacky, brush on top coat. 4.Dry completely.

How to Crackle Paint

Crackle paint is a fun decorative finish that does not require any expensive specialty paint, although there are many companies that will charge you a lot of money for their crackle paint. Adding a crackle finish to an object will give it an aged look. You can crackle finish furniture, an old wooden box, cabinets, a picture frame, Christmas ornaments, decorative wall letters, or a wooden sign.

Make your own crackle finish. Paint your item, let it dry, then apply a layer of glue and let it dry to a tacky stage. Then apply another coat of paint. As the paint dries, the cracks will appear.
