De Zwitsers-Franse kunstenaar Félix Vallotton geldt als de grootste vernieuwer van dit medium. Met zijn houtsneden in meesterlijk zwart-wit beleefde hij tussen 1896 en 1898 het hoogtepunt van zijn carrière.

Meanwhile in the studio..... Remember I wasn't satisfied with the position of the hand and arm in this painting? Well I wiped them all out!!! Usually I think: next one better and continue on what I have but experience has showed me I always see those misplacings forever after. And as a perfectionist I can't stand to see my flaws. Fortunately the commissioned paintings keep me afloat for this is the slowest painting EVER (and thus would be very expensive in spite it's moderate size)…

#insidetheartiststudio : Back to the 7 Capital Sins! Remember a few days ago I posted the sketch for this next painting? The sin depicted is: Sloth. Somebody thought the sin was Swiss cheese (I totally got that haha) That was probably because I literally painted the feeling of not being able to move a limb or a hand.... as if one is living in a sticky substance.... like Swiss cheese  But once I drew the scratch on the canvas I noticed how weird the hand looked in the given space. So instead…
