The Caribbean & routes along the coastlines of Africa & North America were popular pirate haunts. Throughout the Spanish Main, Spaniards were busy looting the vast resources of the Aztecs & shipping the gold & artifacts back to Spain. They became prey to pirates & privateers of enemy countries such as England, France & Holland. Pirates were notorious for spending their ill-gained wealth on liquor and prostitutes, often gambling the remainder of their treasure away.

Fabric lining inside. Made from CHEAP Styrofoam cooler Awesome gift box for birthday present that they could continue playing with. Could make a treasure map to find it.

The home will be utterly filled with these, as well as little piles of coins scattered about. Especially in the room dedicated to my "dragon's hoard".

Frugal treasure chest, great for a pirate themed party or VBS. All you need is: 1 styrofoam cooler,1 can brown spray paint, a little duct tape & black electrical tape from your tool box to make "hinges", "lock" & bands, a scrap of cardstock to make the lock, black permanent marker to draw on keyhole and screws in the hinges. Wonder if this could work as a piñata too?
