seriema | Seriema (Cariama cristata) The Seriema birds are the sole extant members of the small and ancient clade Cariamidae. The Seriemas are large, long-legged terrestrial birds that range from 70 to 90 cm. They live in grasslands, savanna, dry woodland and open forests of Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. There are two species of seriemas, the Red-legged Seriema (Cariama cristata) and the Black-legged Seriema (Chunga burmeisteri).
Spot-backed Puffbird (Nystalus maculatus) An evil-looking puffbird inhabiting dry forests from Peru to Argentina. This is the nominate subspecies from Brazil, which is usually called Caatinga Puffbird when split.
Natural and cultural landmarks of Paraguay Forests are subtropical and tropical as the climate is very humid and the animals are typical of this zone - jaguar, South American tapir, monkeys, peccaries, anteaters and armadillos.
I saw one of these snakes as roadkill on a highway. I found this picture and had to post it so people could get an idea of the wildlife in Paraguay. They are terribly big brutes and I have no idea what this clown's plan of attack is.
