stage 3 - Frisia Coast Trail (FCT)

Stage 3 - IJ river to Vlie river. A hike through the province of North Holland or West Frisia, as it was called until the 12th century. From the Roman outpost castellum Flevum (Velsen) and the Baduhenna woods through the region of West-Friesland to the former island of Wieringen. Here once the sweet Vlie river flowed north, connecting Lake Flevo (now Lake IJssel) with the salty North Sea. When still an island, crown prins of Germany Wilhelm watched the sea during his exile hundred years ago.
