Pensacola Municipal Auditorium (Bay Center) This was built in the early 1950's at the end of South Palafox Street overlooking the bay. It was built on fill land. At one time there was a nice restaurant on the bay side overlooking the water. The auditorium was torn down about 2004-2005 because of damage from Hurricane Ivan. Many concerts were played here including Elvis (3 shows in Feb. 1956), Buddy Holly, the Bee Gees in the 1970's, and continued having concerts til 2002. Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida - This is where my maternal grandparents and my father are buried.

Pensacola 12th Ave (Rd to Airport) 1935 This road appears to be taken from the current intersection of Fairfield Dr and 12th Ave looking north. At the bottom of the hill is a small bridge over Bayou Texar. The road appears to be dirt or clay. Cordova Park is now all in this area, but that wasn't developed until the 1950s by the Baar Family. The original YMCA building at 402-406 North Palafox Street was constructed in 1903 and officially opened in 1906. The facilities included a gymnasium, bowling alley, café, and billiard room. Pensacola Sanitarium - 1915 This supposedly was the area hospital before the Sacred Heart ("Pensacola Hospital") was built on 12th Avenue in 1915. The location was somewhere on Garden Street, west of Palafox. It was open at least as early as 1909 according to a deed located. Years of operation are unknown. Time Capsule

Bayou Texar This photo was taken of Bayou Texar in the early 1900′s and was in a book created by Pensacola photographer Cottrell. The book was brought to me and I copied the photos for the owner of the book. I have never seen another copy of this book and I have mentioned it in earlier posts … the book was titled ” Picturesque Pensacola “. I believe that this area of the Bayou is what you see to the south when you drive across the Cervantes Street bridge.
