184K views · 7.5K reactions | Let’s be real, traveling through Alsace without a car isn’t a walk in the park. While driving is definitely the easiest way to see everything, it’s not for everyone. If you’d rather skip the rental, we took on the region by train and bus and here’s how you can do the same! Day 1-3: We started with Strasbourg as our home base (highly recommend!) because it’s well-connected by trains to the rest of the towns. You could easily spend 3 days here just because it’s the capital of Alsace with plenty of things to see. Day 4: We hopped on a train to Colmar and took the Christmas shuttle to Eguisheim. Both really stunning Alsatian towns but the shuttle was frankly a bit of a nightmare with long lines and infrequent bus timings. Sadly, the only way to get to Eguisheim via public transport so we didn’t have a choice. Spoiler alert: it gets better from here! Day 5: Train over to explore Sélestat in under 20 minutes, the capital of the Christmas tree, and then bus over to Ribeauvillé for medieval vibes that transport you back in time. Day 6: For Obernai, the 30-minute train from Strasbourg was pretty straightforward. The town is seriously underrated with much less crowds and a quaint Christmas market. Day 7: We wrapped up our week with a trip to Mulhouse, which is a bit more off the beaten path but worth checking out. Think colorful street art, fascinating museums, and a unique vibe that makes it totally worth the trip. So, is it possible to explore Alsace without a car? Yes. Is it always easy? No. But if you’re okay with a little extra planning, patience, and flexibility, you can make it work. Have you traveled to Alsace without a car? There’s a reason we’ve gone back to this country 3 times, and it’s always depressing on those last few days when it’s time to fly back home 😭 🌊 Opening clip is in Moray, North East Scotland - Cullen Bay. We only spent a short afternoon here as we drove towards Inverness, but it left us wanting to explore it more! Also it is home to the famous Cullen Skink, a delicious fish and potato soup 🍲 😋 ⛰️ Glencoe - the jewel glen of the Highlands! Go for a drive or stay longer and do some hikes. 🏘️ Falkland - a small quiet village in the Kingdom of Fife, made famous by the tv show Outlander, it’s only 50 minutes from Edinburgh! ⛰️ Glen Etive - Glencoe’s neighbor and overlooked by many, the drive on this road will blow your socks 🧦 off! There’s a spot where we stood on the clip used in the James Bond - Skyfall scene, it’s breathtaking! 🪨 Bow Fiddle Rock - this unique rock formation is just 5 minutes drive away from Cullen Bay, worth a stop! 🏰 Castle Fraser and gardens - I have a weakness for castles and beautiful gardens, don’t they make you feel like you’re in a fairytale too✨ ? 🏰 Dunnotar Castle - full of history and cool happenings, even though it is in ruins, the views are jawdropping and the castle super fun to explore! It even has a lions 🦁 den! Plus it was featured in Mel Gibson’s 1990’s movie “Hamlet” 🪨 Callanais Standing Stones - is located in the Outer Hebrides Isle of Lewis. You need to take a 2 hr ferry ⛴️ to get to the Isle. It’s said this stone circle inspired the Craigh na Dun stone circle in Outlander! Loch Ness - Urquhart Castle 🏰- 30 minutes from Inverness, it is the largest freshwater body in the UK! If you go to the castle you get to see the stunning loch and look for Nessie 🦕 from a tower 😁 🏘️ Stirling - a small city with a big history! Stirling Castle, Stirling bridge and the William Wallace monument are must sees, as well as exploring the medieval old town. Stirling Castle was much more interesting to explore than Edinburgh castle in my opinion 😬 Follow @ourfamilyadventures_04 for more Scotland and world travel inspiration 🫶🏼 | Our Family Adventures

296K views · 17K reactions | This beautiful town has it all 🤩🧚‍♀️❤️ SAVE & SHARE The beautiful fairytale town on the shores of Lake Hallstatt is just 1 hr 20mins from Salzburg. You can visit this town for a day trip ,although I recommend staying a night or two to enjoy the beauty without the crowds. Hallstatt is home to fewer than 1,000 inhabitants , with over 1 million tourists visiting each year! Hallstatt is full of pastel-colored houses and picturesque streets ideal for getting lost in ,as well as the village’s very own waterfall. This small but popular village is so impressive that UNESCO has claimed much of it as a World Heritage Site. If you are planning a visit, here are some of the best things to do in Hallstatt. 1️⃣Get the iconic Hallstatt photograph. You will find the best vantage point of the village and church a short walk north out of town. 2️⃣Explore the town. Hallstatt is tiny and easily walkable. Take time to explore the artisan goods and foods, including local salt in the market square . 3️⃣Visit the worlds oldest salt mine. A trip to the salt mine is one of the most popular things to do in Hallstatt. 4️⃣ Feast on local Austrian cuisine. Start with breakfast pastries at lakefront Seecafe Frundsberg. For lunch try Restaurant am See. Need a coffee break? Try centrally located Café Derbl. 5️⃣Take a boat trip on the lake, some of the best views are from the water. For a more authentic and budget-friendly experience, hop aboard the regular ferries that connect you to the train station on the other side of the lake. Tickets are cash-only and available on board. ©️No reposts. Content belongs to sunkissedblondetravels.
