Edgar Fernhout (Dutch, 1912-1974), Portrait of Charley Toorop, 1932. Collection Scheringa Museum of Realist Art in Spanbroek, Netherlands. Fernhout, the son of Charley Toorop, began painting realistically. Although both painted portraits and still lifes, the social conscience in his mother’s work are missing in Fernhout’s paintings. After the death of his mother his work became completely abstract.
