an art project with sunflowers painted on it

The 2nd Grade students studied the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his artwork. We also read the book, Camille and the Sunflowers. The students were able to create a giant sunflower creating emphasis in their artwork. Then they were shown how to blend colors using oil pastels. The students had to choose a cool color for their background to make their sunflower "pop" in their piece of art.

four different colored cupcakes with icing and sprinkles

So as the end of the year goes by I try to keep projects as a two day lesson because with end of year field trips, field days, and assemblies there will be several groups that will miss. four different colored squares with the word work written in each letter on them, all made up of paper

Second grade is the best! Look at how good they are... In this lesson, I used a PowerPoint from Ms. Brown's website http://www.mrsbrownart.com/2nd.htm which helped the students learn what Op Art is all about. They also learned about Complementary colors - if you stare at one color for a long time, sometimes you will see the opposite of that color when you stare into a blank space. So hopefully when you stare at their pictures for long enough, the shapes will start to disappear!

a drawing of a blue bird on a yellow background

My second-grade students completed these simple oil pastel resist birds in one 45-minute class. It’s a pretty simple lesson… no-fuss bird drawing using oil pastel then paint with liquid watercolors. two jellyfishs are painted on a piece of paper

First graders have been working on this painting the past few weeks. We are studying weather patterns and having fun learning new techniques with watercolor like blowing, dripping, and adding salt! Third grade is painting these fun jellyfish watercolor resists! I LOVE this Liquitex gloss Medium and Varnish!! It makes a great resist! We just painted this gloss medium right on the paper to create our jellies... We are using warm colors for the Jelly and cool colors+salt for the water I just…
