Aerial photography enables us to capture completely new and uncommonly beautiful views. When we rise above any scene, we discover completely new things. Still, the natural landscape continues to contain reflections, which are capable of rendering a sight far different from how it is in reality. Every reflection—which, in the classical sense, makes the picture more painterly—also detracts from its authenticity.

Bram Stoker did a pretty darn good job promoting Transylvania. I’m sure you must have heard about Dracula! Although my post is not Dracula-related, I’m still going to quote him: “Once again...welcome to my house. Come freely. Go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring.”

Photographing from 5,000 feet, Alex Maclean’s pictures show the complexities and hidden patterns of modern life across America and Europe. Maclean’s photos will be exhibited at a London gallery in March 2014.
