a quilted wall hanging with colorful designs on it's sides and the number one

These are scraps left from Under the Big Top that I made last summer for a great nephew. This is a charity quilt and I also have learned a neat way to sew the binding on entirely by machine. Here is a close up!! These are leftover pieces from the Chevron quilt I made for another great nephew earlier this year. What shall I do?? I am pretty fond of strippy quilts so I started putting pieces in rows, cutting up a few larger pieces and all of a sudden I had a cool finished quilt! I am afraid my…

a purple and pink quilted wall hanging on the floor next to a brown carpet

I'm making 52 quilts in 2018 for Jack's Basket, where babies with Down syndrome are celebrated. In May I worked on quilts 18, 19, 20 and 21: Quilt number 18 is quilted with Macaroni: Quilt number 19 is quilted with Pretty Paisley: Quilt number 20 is quilted with Baby Curls: Quilt number 21 is quilted with Spring Thing: The quilt pattern I'm using is "Simple Gifts" from the mini book, Fat Quarter Love, by Modern Quilt Studio. Do you have a go-to baby quilt pattern? I'm being affected by the…

a pink and white quilt on the floor with black trimmings, in front of a wooden floor

I've been on a roll with the charity quilts this year. It's a great way to practice quilting or try out new things. Here are the two I finished this week. The first one is a more girly quilt. I quilted one of my favorite patterns ever, Ginger Blossoms, on it. The second is the second I Spy quilt I made with some bug fabrics I'd had forever. I tried a new quilting pattern, Cobblestones, on it to complement the black fabric. It's very hard to see, but the black fabric has small circles on it…

a pink and green patchwork quilt with flowers on it's border, sitting on a wooden surface

I'm making 52 quilts in 2018 for Jack's Basket, where babies with Down syndrome are celebrated. I went through my calendar and numbered all 52 of the Saturdays in 2018. Since June has 5 Saturdays, I finished 5 quilts this month. We went on a road trip to California this month. While staying at my DH's childhood home, I pieced 11 baby quilt tops on this Singer 201 that was his grandmother's sewing machine, manufactured in March of 1950. With a lot of oil (there must've been 30 oil spots in…

a colorful patchwork quilt with lots of different colors

Working on quilts for 2024. Most quilts will go to Wrap-A-Smile though a few will go to Quilts of Valor & most will go to Wrap-A-Smile. I was away for several months this year so my production has been down. Several of my quilting friends in the Sunshine Online Quilting guild are making 44 quilts for 2024. It's now October 25 so I am thinking I'll not have that many quilts for this year but heck, I'll try to get as many done as possible. Back of prior quilt

a quilt with the words charity scrap quilt on it

I finished my little charity quilt. Normally I would not do anything too involved on theses charity quilts...not because they are for charity but simply because I am volunteering my time and resources to quilt them. However I absolutely fell in love with the last charity quilt. Not sure what it is about this one, but I really like the very simple design and the colours of that quilt. The fabric reminds me of something but I cannot quite place it. Such a pretty quilt and nicely straight. So I…

several pieces of fabric laid out on the floor

Today was spent working on charity quilts at guild and at home. It was the charity sew day for GCQ and I worked on scrappy blocks made of squares and rectangles. In the cabinet I found a bag full of pieces already cut and some strips. I chose ones I liked together, counted out bunches that I would need and started chain piecing sets. I got a lot of components pieced. The drawing shows how the pieces fit in a 12” block. I also collected a pile of scraps for crumb piecing. For the the guild…

the quilts are laid out and ready to be sewn

Sample #3 is in the block construction process. Like the ones shown in my previous post (scroll down), it uses strips that we can die cut from the club's very random stash and kit up. Some of the strips in the previous quilts were cut 2-1/2" by 10-1/2". Usually we can get four pieces from a WOF strip, but sometimes only three, leaving a too-short piece that I hate to waste. This quilt uses 2-1/2" by 6-1/2" pieces so we can take advantage of those leftover strips, or we can cut 6 pieces…
