Monarch Butterfly Emerging From Chrysalis

On July 1st, the Monarch Butterfly that I have posted earlier as an egg and then a caterpillar, emerged from its chrysalis. This picture is from two days after it formed the chrysalis, and shows the beautiful jade green color that the chrysalis has. This picture was taken on day eight as a chrysalis. Eric McCollum - The Cocoon Series | LensCulture

E. E. McCollum’s “Cocoon” series takes its name from the mesh body cocoon in which he shrouds his subjects. Originally drawn to the sculptural quality the stretched fabric creates, he then became interested in the transformation of the figure. The body remains visible inside the fabric – limbs, torso, face, hands all recognizable inside the space of the cocoon yet changed, verging toward anonymity and unfamiliarity. Silk production in Soufli has a long history dating back to Byzantium. Families involved in the silk industry could not even imagine that this “noble” raw material would be widely used one day.Soufli is the only city in Greece involved in silkworm rearing and processing of yarn taken from the cocoon. Silk produced is of high quality, often considered better than the Chinese. This fact combined with the European monopoly gives a great perspective on the region.
