Can you name one of the types of honeybees? 🤔 A honey bee colony consists of three adult bees: queen, drones, and workers. Thousands of worker bees collaborate to build homes, collect food, and raise broods. Each member is responsible for doing a task appropriate for their age. Were you able to name one? Tell us about it in the comments! #beemanhoneystix #honeystixincalifornia #honeybees
The Queen. With only one Queen per hive & a life span of five years (much longer than the average worker/Drone bee). The Queen is essential to the Hive, as she controls the hive and its workers via pheromones. The lifespan & success of the colony depend upon the Queen.
The drone bee is often misunderstand and seen as a drag on the colony. But drones serve a very important function. The honey bee colony is unbalanced without them. #carolinahoneybees #dronebee #honeybee
The male Drone Bees are more or less the least important when it comes to Hive social structures. Although without them there would be no fertilisation. Your more likely to see a male Drone bee in the summer around the Hive. Unlike the female workers they do not collect pollen & nectar.
Drone bees do not show typical workers bee behaviors such as hive construction, nursing, or resource gathering. The main function of drone bees is to fertilize a receptive queen bee. Drones usually don’t mate with a virgin queen of the same colony because the queen flies further to a drone congregation area than drones do.
