I first learned of Vivian Maier in a photo history class at my university and she's been a major source of inspiration since. Vivian was an American street film photographer who captured over thousands of photos in the second half of the twentieth century while living in New York City. Her work, however, was only discovered in 2007 by a man named John Maloof at a local thrift auction house in Chicago. Acclaimed American street photographer Bruce Gilden is notable for his high level energy candid close-up portraits of people on the street and his cinematic imagery now in color. His work is part of numerous museums and galleries around the world. Gilden has published 18 books since 1998. Bruce Gilden was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2013. He lives in New York.
