From the front, the inn looks like a pleasant house, especially at the end of a long journey. It faces on to the road along one side of the Green in Bree, and two wings run back, cut in to the hillside, so at the rear the secondfloor windows are level with the rising ground. A wide archway leads off the road and into a courtyard, and from there several broad steps on the left lead up to a door in to the common-room of The Prancing Pony where a visitor will be warmly greeted by the Innkeeper.
