Puriri Moth (Pepe Tuna) Aenetus virescens

Native NZ's largest moth - wingspan up to 15 cms. (this one was only 10 cms. and was unfortunately dead) They don't eat and have no mouth and live for only a few days. The caterpillar bores into various trees eating the inner bark and outer sapwood for up to 5 years before emerging for it's short life as a moth.
