This is a gorgeous styro print project I saw online HERE a few years ago. I finally got around to teaching it this past year. Let me tell you- the struggle was REAL! This took forever to complete and many of my students got frustrated. There's a large amount of unpredictability in this lesson and my perfectionists really struggled with getting 'perfect' prints. Nonetheless, it pushed us out of our comfort zones and they learned a lot about printmaking with this project. I did this lesson…

The idea for this lesson came from an image I saw on Pinterest.. but after doing some investigative work - seems to have originated from the blog Art. Paper. Scissors. Glue and before that from the 1991 book written by Sara Beggs, "The No Nonsense Guide to Teaching Art." For this lesson we began by taking about what symmetry is and the difference between linear symmetry (1 line of symmetry) and radial symmetry (more than 1 line of symmetry). Then we talked about what a sculpture is (a piece…

This is a project that gives students a fun and successful start to the school year. It requires some spatial reasoning skills and you will find that your students will be quietly engaged. I love when that happens! The directions might seem confusing until you try it yourself. Then you'll see that it's really quite easy. MATERIALS: 8 1/2" X 8 1/2" white computer paper that you have pre-cut for your students, pencils, black or blue sharpies and classroom markers. Here are the steps: 1) Fold…

Y'all....I'm so proud of these 5th graders! They're my first class of the day, and have been a joy to have in the morning. These past few weeks, we've been working on a project that I haven't tried in a few years, but I'm glad we visited it again! Thanks for the idea Mrs. Rogers! The students take their name, or name of choice, write it once and trace it 7 more times to create this neat and unique work of art! Here's how we created ours! Materials: Pencils Sharpies Crayola Markers or colored…

REPORTING........ 4th graders learned about how Mandalas have been used all over the world in many different cultures! We noticed how they are symmetrical in a special way - they have symmetry all the way around a circle, not just from one side to the other. Check out these wonderful artworks and what these artists had to say about what they learned. A fun fact I learned about Mandalas is they do not have to have a topic. they can be abstract. (Camden 4th grade). A fun fact I learned about…
