Liz Hermann | 2nd Grade Teacher on Instagram: "Save this idea for next time you don’t want to use your voice to quiet your kids down and get their attention. This idea actually came from a professor of mine. He said it helps get the student’s attention because they want to join in and be the ones to follow the pattern. One way he suggested to use it is when you come together as a group, then you can have a student start the pattern. Whoever comes to the circle first, can start the pattern first. It motivates the kids to transition quickly and quietly. What are some other ways you like to do an attention getter without using your voice? #attention #classroom #classroompinspirations #classroomideas #classroommanagement #classroommanagementstrategies #iteach #iteachtoo #secondgrade" Attention Getters, 2nd Grade Teacher, Classroom Management Strategies, 5th Grade Classroom, Group Work, Your Voice, 5th Grades, Second Grade, 2nd Grade

While I am the instructional leader of my classroom, my students are the ... Read more

The words “student voice” have become vogue around educational circles, conferences and tweets – and for good reason. Teachers who have been around a while – know that jargon is something that comes and goes and as a result, we are often very weary of fashionable terms . For me, there is something very special about this term because it asks us to disrupt the students role in the classroom, something I value in my own educational philosophy. This is because I have seen first hand that a…

Katie Plunkett on Instagram: "HEY TEACHERS — this one’s for you. Are your students talking incessantly these days? Same old strategies not working anymore? I FEEL THAT. My students are a bunch of chatterboxes right now and I honestly get it. Summer is around the corner, we’re in the midst of testing season, and we’re ALL getting restless. However, we still have three weeks of school left and I’ve had to get creative to channel the chatter and foster focus in my classroom. These strategies have MAJORLY helped 👇🏼 👏 COPY MY CLAP Instead of raising your voice or saying “I’ll wait,” try clapping out a beat. Students will copy you. Gradually, more and more will join in. My students particularly love a drumroll once everyone is paying attention! 🤫 THE WHISPER GAME Give your students Students Talking Over Teacher, Whisper Game, Quiet Critters, Words For Teacher, Homeschool Education, Sand Timers, I'll Wait, Class Management, Classroom Behavior
