Vico magistretti

<span>In the year of his 100th birthday, <i>Domus</i> explores the evolution of an icon of Italian architecture and design through an “archival photo story”.</span>

‘No pastels’ was at the top of the brief for this penthouse apartment in one of Berlin’s converted tenement houses, or Mietskasernen. The punchy traffic light colour scheme devised by Kasia Kronberger of @studio.bosko is about as far away from pale saccharine shades as possible. The two vintage red ‘Carimate’ chairs by Vico Magistretti, upholstered in Dedar’s ‘Tiger Silk’ in ‘Electric Orange’, were the starting point for the dining space. Out: sleek, minimalist, mid-century. In: bulbous, curvy, and deeply covetable.

The Carimate chair designed by Vico Magistretti in 1959 for the Golf Club Carimate in Lombardy, Italy, is partly inspired on the Scandinavian tradition combined with the Italian traditional of a wood and rush/straw chair.
