The Sault Ste. Marie Chippewa flag has a black background, which is unusual for any flag. It bears a colorful seal replete with symbolism. The seal is divided into quarters, each of a different color, representing a compass direction and bearing an animal symbolizing a particular clan. A teal-blue body of a turtle, completely circular and edged in aquamarine, forms the center of the seal. The Tribe describes its flag's symbolism (Wabun-Anong, pamphlet, June 1982)

As a physical representation of spiritual energy, the Medicine Wheel is a circle divided in four parts. It honors the four cardinal directions (East, South, West and North), four Seasons of the year (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter), four elements (Fire, Water, Earth and Air) and our four levels of existence (Spiritual, Emotional, Physical and Mental). Some also relate different power animals to each cardinal direction and the four colours of human races (Yellow, Red, Black and White).

NATIVE AMERICAN WOLF PRAYER ~ Follow me down the path. I will walk beside you. Guiding and showing you the way. I will not leave you. I will be standing on the path watching you. If you ever feel alone, close your eyes. You will see 6 sets of foot prints. 2 belong to you, 4 to me. Then you will know that I have not left you.
