OP: "Odin the god of failed parenting". Actually not. Marvel Comics Odin has questionable parenting skills. The Odin pictured here is the traditional Odin of Norse mythology. In Norse mythology not only was Odin called the All-Father, nothing was said about his parenting skills with regard to his own family. Good, bad or indifferent, it's not an issue in Norse myth. In Norse mythology, furthermore, Odin is NOT Loki's father, adopted or otherwise. He is Loki's sworn brother.

In Norse mythology, the Einherjar (Old Norse "lone fighters") are those that have died in battle and are brought to Valhalla by valkyries. In Valhalla, they eat their fill of the nightly-resurrecting beast Sæhrímnir, and are brought their fill of mead (from the udder of the goat Heiðrún) by valkyries. They prepare daily for the events of Ragnarök, when they will advance for an immense battle at the field of Vígríðr.
