Catalpa speciosa (Northern Catalpa) - A large, deciduous tree to consider.  It's native to North America and will grow everywhere, but it truly looks tropical with massive 12" or larger leaves.  It is covered in white streaked with purple, fragrant, trumpet-shaped flowers.
