Another modern Ichimatsu doll dressed in a furisode with a (mock?) bingata pattern. Bingata dyeing originated in the Ryukyu Kingdom, now known as Okinawa Prefecture. It is a labor-intensive resist dyeing technique that uses aged mulberry paper stencils, rice paste, and plant and insect dyes. While only Ryukyuan royalty wore brightly colored bingata clothing in the past, colorful bingata cloth is now used in a variety of garments, ranging from expensive kimonos to t-shirts.
