Astoria, Oregon - Astoria is the seat of Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. Situated near the mouth of the Columbia River, the city was named after the American investor John Jacob Astor. His American Fur Company founded Fort Astoria at the site in 1811. Astoria was incorporated by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on October 20, 1876
Moses Williams, who started his military career as an illiterate soldier and later became commander of Fort Stevens near what is now Astoria, Ore. Williams died in 1899 and is buried in Vancouver. Flipper said the former Buffalo Soldier was one of the most decorated soldiers in the history of the U.S. government.
