I am actually a stern believer of the fact that most people don't even think Limburg belongs to the Netherlands at all. We're outcasts.
People expect us to all speak "Limburgian". While being mostly true, a lot of younger kids don't speak it.
a lot of other provinces, like Zeeland e.g., often think we're Belgians due to the fact that we have a soft G and they have a hard G
People often see us like we are the same as people from Brabant. People from Brabant/Limburg think they're from 2 different worlds.
We are all expected to know German at birth, because yeah, "Back-up Germans".
Back again with the "vlaai", because no matter how you turn it, people always seem to think that all we do is eat "vlaai" all day.
One stereotype, which might just be true, is that we tend to drink a lot. This is one stereotype that I don't mind.
Ask our Dutch classmates, we are seen as people with a quite hard to understand accent. (Learn to listen people, gosh)
And we're seen as back-up Belgians by others.
We are seen as back up Germans by some.
