Monschau (Germany)

Monschau is a small town in Germany on the border with Belgium. I have been there twice now, and I highly recommend visiting this place. Its stunning architecture makes it breathtaking. Every corner in this town has it's own beautiful view.

Isn't it a dream to live here?
In a quiet town full of many colourful houses. This place is called Monschau and it is located on the Belgian-German border on the German side. Just south of Aachen. (House in picture not for sale as far as I know)
Fachwerkhäuser Monschau
Absolut empfohlen Monschau einmal zu besichtigen.
Small towns or big cities?
What do you prefer? I would say go to the big cities/capital if you want a summary of the counrty, but you'll see the country by visiting the smaller towns. I love to travel and I have been to Germany many times. If I would give a tip for visiting Germany, definitely skip the 4 biggest cities if you want to enjoy more beautiful towns, less tourists, and have a more accurate experience of the country. I only recommend going to the big cities if you don't have too much time, or want to learn about the regional or national history of the counrty. Because the4 big cities are nice and pretty, but I personally prefer the charm of the small towns.
An unique place in NRW Germany
Near Aachen en Lüttich is this small town called Monschau. Maybe feeling like a typical Bavarian town due to it's architecture? It actually lays on the Belgian border in Nordrhein Westfalen.
The charming Monschau
Monschau is one of my favourite places in Germany.
Hiking tip or a day trip?
Get lost in the charming streets of this little German town. Monschau has these beautiful typical German houses everywhere and despite it's small size every corner is beautiful, so you can easlily spend a day here. This town also has a hiking path up the hills around it (see photo) and it gives you a great view over town. Note: some parts of the path were unaccesable at the time I was here (Sep 9 2024) and the path can be slippery during rainy weather. Also the entrance is a little bit hidden, but it's marked with signs.
Can you guess which unique location this is?
Here are some hints: So this little town is known amoung tourists, but not overfull. It's founded in 1198 and is located in modern Germany. In its history it is famous for the linen industry, but nowadays it attacts many visitors due to the beautiful architecture. This place is called Monschau and it is one of my favourite places in all of Germany. I highly recommend you to visit this little town close to Aachen and Lüttich (Belgium).

Entering Monschau
From the parking lot where we were parked, this is one of the first buildings we came across. Monschau is a small town but every building is as stunning as this one.
