Whitmore Hall, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire - In the same family for over 900 years, descendants of the Normans, the house is a fine example of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It is built of warm brick, with pediment and a later, 19th century porch. One of the outstanding features of Whitmore is the extremely rare example of a late Elizabethan stable block, the ground floor is part cobbled and has nine oak-carved stalls.
