'Plus Oultra Cabinet', c. 1530. Walnut inlaid with various woods, probably spindlewood, ebony, poplar, ash, holly and a tropical hardwood. H: 81.3 cm, W: 134 cm. Cabinet, with a carved cornice and inlaid frieze of grotesques, inlaid sides depicting the allegorical figures Temperance and Justice. Emblazoned with the Pillars of Hercules, the emblem of Charles V with the motto 'PLUS ULTRA' on the inside. -Victoria and Albert Museum-
