The Himalayan subtropical pine forests are a large subtropical coniferous forest ecoregion covering portions of Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. This huge pine forest stretches for 3000 km across.

Azorella compacta is a tiny flowering plant that grows in the harsh, cold and dry conditions of the Andes in Peru, Bolivia, the north of Chile and the west of Argentina at an altitude of between 3,200 and 4,500 metres. It is an evergreen perennial and many plants are over 3,000 years old.
