I've always loved animals; they heavily inspire most of my work. It was a natural progression for me to bring my love of photography and animals together. For this series, my goal was to feature the animals outside of their environments and capture a moment that will last as long as the viewer needs to absorb their charms.

The Alba Series was created between 2008 and 2010, during a prolonged stay in Edinburgh, Scotland, U.K. In December 2008, I moved from the United States to Edinburgh to accompany my husband while he worked toward his MFA. This was the first time I had ever left the USA. The work I produced during this two-year stay is a reflection of my experiences and psychological reactions to this new environment. Combining portraiture, still life and landscapes, this series is heavily influenced by the…

Nethermead

In addition to specific projects, I pursue a variety of urban landscape studies around New York City. Yet, after several years of this, I realize I'm barely scratching the surface. Just when I think I've got a handle on capturing these famously gritty streets, I turn a corner and realize just how infinitely deep and rich this town really is. My snowstorm images of Brooklyn's Prospect Park are cases in point. At first glance, they might be mistaken for wilderness landscapes. Then, lamps…

One great thing about shooting wintry scenes in black and white is how graphic the photographs become - Mazamas Making Their Way up the Hogsback towards the Summit of Mt. Hood, a Vintage Edition, is a perfect example of that. Vintage Ski, Vintage Winter, Mt Hood Oregon, Custom Baggers, Cat Art Print, Forest Service, Mountain Climbing, Monochrom, Mountaineering

Mazamas Making Their Way up the Hogsback towards the Summit of Mt. Hood, 1963

Retired Forest Service employee and current avalanche safety expert Roland Emetaz, also known as Mr. Em, shot this photo of Mazamas club climbers on Oregon's Mt. Hood scaling the mountain's Hogsback ridge, which runs from Crater Rock to the so-called Pearly Gates and the summit. Inspired by the Nahuatl Indian word for "mountain goat," Oregon mountaineers, male and female, founded the adventuring club Mazamas (pronounced "mah-zah-maz") on the mountain's summit in 1894.

Forest. Exclusion Zone, Chernobyl

Some 20 years after the nuclear reactor incident of April 26, 1986, Chernobyl lies 100 kilometers north of the capital city of Ukraine, Kiev, in a boreal forest of winding rivers and dark bogs. This wilderness was known as the Pripyat Marshes, the historic refuge of the Slavic people from foreign invasions. That first morning, as the plume of radioactive debris fell across the land and into the rest of Europe, the authorities evacuated the city of Pripyat and created a 40-kilometer Exclusion…
