Recipe For Homemade Cakes
Bacon butties with homemade horseradish mayo | Homemade bacon butties filled with good smoky bacon and laced with horseradish and watercress just taste good. If you like more of a kick, you can add more horseradish. This recipe makes a generous amount of the mayo, but it’s hard to make less as it’s difficult to whisk 1 egg yolk. Store mayo in a sterilised jar in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Crab and haloumi tart with sour cream pastry | This recipe is such a treat! Even though it’s a tart as such, crab and haloumi really make it exciting. I first tried this recipe with my colleague Ish at his restaurant Gigi Baba, and now we feature the revised tart frequently at the Workers’ Food Room in Melbourne. We've changed it slightly and incorporated a sour cream pastry. We serve it with a cucumber, avocado and witlof salad dressed with Kefalotyri aïoli. Ish's inspiration for this
Garam masala and currant teacake | This recipe takes its inspiration from the buttery cakes often served in the teahouses of Kerala. If using a homemade garam masala mix, don’t be tempted to add any more garam masala than the recipe calls for - a little goes a long way. However, if using store-bought spice mix, you can double the quantity.
Chocolate and cardamom mousse cake with homemade honeycomb | This is a really simple torte recipe, and if you’re really pushed for time you can even buy the sponge base to make it even easier for yourself. The homemade honeycomb may seem a bit scary, but once you’ve tried it you’ll see how easy it is to do.
