"Lake Vyrnwy Straining Tower" by Steve Wilson - over 4... on Flickr - Approximately 1,000 m/3,500 feet from the dam is the reservoir's straining tower.  The purpose of the tower is to filter or strain out material in the water with a fine metal mesh, before the water flows along a 70 mile long aqueduct to Liverpool.  Its architecture is Gothic and built during the same time as the dam.  This was photographed at Llanwddyn, Wales, GB.
