Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn with their children. It was a second marriage for both, the one that “took,” for 52 years until Jessie (as Hume called her) passed in 1994 at the age of 85. They’re probably best remembered for their film work, but they were at their core theater people, dubbed “the first couple of the American stage” by Playbill. Other memorable film roles include Fried Green Tomatoes and Driving Miss Daisy for Tandy, Rope and Shadow of a Doubt for Cronyn.
