i will always think about my little sister sticking two, what looked like sticks in the ground in virginia at our farm.i laughed but actually the joke was on me she had a green thumb and those two twigs turned into a beautiful lilac bush the other a graceful weeping willow tree. love them both.probably still growing bigger as the years past.they added much southern charm to the property too!

much southern charm lilac

The smell of lilacs. I loved the big lilac bush in the corner of the yard.

A favorite common lilac ( S. vulgaris), name alas unknown, that blooms early in the traditional lilac season.

Arctostaphylos edmundsii Carmel Sur - tolerant of heat, drought & garden conditions, including irrigation. accepts clay, a hot & sunny location on the coast (afternoon shade inland), or on an adobe slope. under 1 foot tall & 4-6’ across. foliage is an attractive gray-green & fire resistant. The branches attractively twisted with thick red bark & the general habit is very dense. Some light pink flowers in the spring but fine foliage & its tough as nails disposition are the main attractions.
