Indian Army On The Western Front  Pictured: Sikh soldiers at Pas de Calais, circa 1915/1916  Most Indian soldiers and cavalry had left the western front before the Somme Offensive and shipped to either Salonica in Macedonia or on to Egypt and then onto Mesopotamia.  Over one and half million Indian troops served overseas, of whom 62,000 died and another 67,000 were wounded. In total at least 74,187 Indian soldiers died during the war.
